Getting Started
Day 1
Today is the start of Alchemy Jam with the theme Flying, and the required sprite sheet is included below.
I have also found some old assets I made for a flappy bird clone, for when I was learning Unity. In addition, I have loads of Blender assets, that don’t have a home. For example, I have a super fun checker-board, and I have some interesting led panels.
I also noticed that I have some interesting comic-book shader nodes that I made for Blender, so this might be a chance to test those out.
Given that the spirit of the Jam is to use assets you have, and to change them to fit the theme of the game, I think I will make this into a 2D comic shader type game, but made from 3D assets.
I am curious to see how blender 2D shaders that react to light will handle in Unity.
My Game Plan
Because I have plenty of assets, and even more ways to make assets, but I am weak in the “gameplay” department, my plan is to keep my mechanics easy and simple, and make a bit of a fashion-collectable game.
I have a bird already, so this already works with the flying theme.
I think the easiest thing to do would be to have the pet bird fly around his mom’s house, and collect various powerups that you can then use to upgrade you, the bird.
To start, I think I will use some variation of my old flappy-bird model, but I think being able to have control over the shapes could be fun. Giving choices is easiest.
